Doctoral student Ing. David Markusík succeeded in 2023 with his project on the development of inorganic sealers in a tender and received a grant from the Italian government for research abroad. At the Università degli Studi di Palermo he is analysing the possibility of applying halloysite nanotubes and other fillers in surface treatments.
His research aims to improve the properties of old concretes, prolonging their lifetime and targeting more sustainable solutions for the planet and the environment in the field of binding and construction materials.
The Dean's Award for Outstanding Research Publication for the paper "Philosophy of rational mixture proportioning of alkali-activated materials validated by the hydration kinetics of alkali-activated slag and its microstructure" was awarded to a research team from the Institute of Materials Science in 2023.
