Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic relation between structure on atom level and properties, principle of bond formation in relation to stability , reaction rate, changes of energy during reaction, phase and chemical equilibria in relation to technological problems

Basic knowledge of chemisty, physics and mathematics at secondary-school levell

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Condition of credit granting of exercies is obtaining 50 % points at final test (calculations and nomenclature are assessed separately). Student who did not achieve 30% of points at tests written at lessons during semester will not be allowed for the final test.
Examination: 50 % point from examination written test is required and basic theoretical knowledge of general chemistry has to be proved by oral examination.

Aims

Introducing lectures of General chemistry are oriented to understanding of principles of formation of various types of bonds, energy of chemical processes, system of elements and structure of compounds in relation to their properties.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at all tests written at lessons during whole semestr is compulsory with consequences stated in art.7 paragraph 4 of Faculty directive governing clauses of Study and examination rule of BUT.
