Learning outcomes of the course unit

By completing the course, students will gain knowledge in the field of waste management, with a focus on the food industry. Student will be familiar with the physical, chemical, biochemical and biological waste treatment processes, will understand the basic characteristics of the waste and will be possible to identify and analyze basic and special compounds in waste. Student gains the ability to competently and responsibly dispose of waste in relation to the valid legislation of the Czech Republic and EU. The acquired knowledge will be able to use in identifying sources of waste in the food industry and to design options for waste treatment.

The course required the knowledge form Analytical chemistry I and II, Biochemistry I and II courses

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures with an explanation of basic principles, the methodology of the discipline, problems and their solutions. Guided tutorials for distance learning are largely devoted to consultation and to control tasks given to a separate elaboration.

The course is evaluated on the basis of completed oral exams

Aims

The aim of this course is to acquaint students with problems of waste management in the food industry - with current legislation, the types of waste in the food industry, with technologies for waste treatment and the principles of biological waste treatment, waste recycling options and with methods used for the analysis of waste.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The course is evaluated on the basis of completed oral exams, continuous control is not performed.
