Original Abstract

Probiotic lactic acid bacteria play an important role in the health maintenance of human gastrointestinal tract. Lactobacillus gasseri K7 is a probiotic strain which was isolated from feces of one week-old breast-fad baby [1]. Its probiotic characteristics were shown in more publications [1, 2]. The carboxyl group-containing magnetic nonporous poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl dimethylmethacrylate) (P(HEMA-co-GMA) particles were used for the isolation of total DNA from pure culture Lactobacillus gasseri K7. Two types of magnetic particles with different concentration of carboxyl groups on their surface were tested. These particles reversibly bind DNA in the presence of high concentrations of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 6000) and sodium chloride [3].
