Cosmetology,bioactives, safety and cellular testinggroup
The laboratory focuses on the isolation, characterization and processing of pharmaceutically and cosmetically important natural biologically active substances, on the development of various application forms and, last but not least, on the use of PHA-based biomaterials in cosmetics. In this context, attention is paid to the use of by-products from food and agricultural production as very interesting raw materials for the isolation of active chemical substances. The professional focus is broadened to include cosmetic and pharmaceutical chemistry, specialised chemistry of natural substances, modern methods of extraction and analysis of natural substances, hygiene and microbiological safety of food, its ingredients and cosmetic products and relevant legislation. Special attention is also paid to the possibility of using probiotics in cosmetics, possibly in food supplements and articles of daily consumption (cooperation with Medi Pharma Vision; projects of the TAČR and MIT). The use of sensory analysis to assess the consumer acceptability of products is also an integral part of the research infrastructure within cosmetology, including a human cell culture laboratory where potential cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of natural substances are tested, as well as interactions with body fluids, skin and the skin microbiome.
