Laboratory Classes in Biopolymer Processing Technology

Students will expand their laboratory skills and practical knowledge in the set of laboratory classes, they will be acquainted with the basic material and technological properties of selected biopolymers and their use in a number of valuable and current applications such as preparation of transport systems for food and cosmetics, encapsulation techniques and procedures, edible food packaging or preparation of microparticles and microfibers.

Course curriculum
2. Identification of everyday plastics by their physical properties.
3. Processing of polymer based on starch.
4. Preparation of hydrogels based on gelatin and their use as transport systems.
5. Preparation of hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol).
6. Natural product isolation.
7. Natural product encapsulation by the emulsion-solvent evaporation method.
8. Preparation and characterization of liposomes.
9. Preparation of microparticles from hydrophobic polyesters.
10. Preparation of microfibers from hydrophobic polyesters.
11. Production of own biopolymer and its application
12. Mechanical properties of our biopolymers – tensile testing.
13. Presentation of students results.
