Mechanics and Failure of Non Metallic Materials
FCH-MCO_MPMAcad. year: 2021/2022
Introduction to solid mechanics, basic terms, stress and strain tensor, strain energy, linear and non-linear elasticity, stress concentration. Yielding, yield criteria. Plastic deformation in polymeric solids. Elastic stress field around crack tip in a homogeneous isotropic solid. Stress intensity factor, shape factor, calibration factor F, solution for a finite dimension solid, mixed mode of failure, scale factor. Systems with energy dissipation - failure criterion, failure types, J integral. Mechanisms of crack initiation - microshear bands, crazes, cavitation, percolation concept in polymer failure. Fracture behavior of various materials (PMMA, PC, PP, PE, HIPS, ABS, PVC, epoxy). Impact failure. Brittle ductile transition.
