Learning outcomes of the course unit

At the end of the course students should be able to understand the spectra for NMR spectroscopy and structure analysis of organic compounds. The acquired knowledge enables to work both in research and practice of bioorganic and pharmaceutical chemistry, in control laboratories and state administration.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Organic chemistry I+II, Analytical chemistry II, practice from instrumental analytical chemistry.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final written test. At least 50% of the questions must be answered.

Course curriculum

1. Physical fundamentals of NMR spectroscopy
2. Basic parameters for assessment and interpretation of NMR spectra (signal multiplicity, coupling constant, integral, chemical shift, etc.)
3. 1D NMR 1H spectroscopy, 1D NMR 13C spectroscopy, 2D NMR spectroscopy methods,
4. NMR spectra of selected groups of organic compounds
5-13. NMR spectra interpretation for individual molecules
