Course curriculum
1. Source water composition and properties, Water treatment technology trains – basic water treatment processes overview)
2. Coagulation and flocculation (theory and practice basics)
3. Water aeration (theory and practice)
4. Separation processes – sedimentation (theory and practice), flotation (theory and practice), granular media filtration (theory and practice), membranes (theory and practice)
5. Adsorption of organic compounds by activated carbon (theory and practice)
6. Removal of specific contaminants (iron and manganese removal, N compounds removal)
7. Water disinfection processes (chemical and physical disinfection processes)
Wastewater treatment technology and re-use waste water
1. Introduction to wastewater treatment plants (use, types, water facilities, water management, technology)
2. Types of WWTP (Configuration, Individual objects / tanks at WWTP, Basic calculations / parameters for WWTP design)
3. Physical Unit Operations sand Chemical Unit Processes at WWTP (sedimentation, coagulation, flotation, etc.)
4. Microbiology, hydrobiology of wastewater (types of microorganims, composition of wastewater, nutrients, processes in the biological part of the process)
5. Sludge management (sewage sludge cycle, sludge types, sludge treatment and hygiene)
6. Waste management (measurement and control, mathematical modeling)
