Course detail

Bioengineering II

FCH-MC_BIO2Acad. year: 2019/2020

Bioengineering II is targeted to give students overview of industrial processing and production used in biochemical engineering, industrial microbiology, biotechnology and biomedical technologies. The students will understand the essential processess used in biochemical engineering processess such as measurement of dissolved oxygen, aeration, agitation, fermentation, cell growth in culture. They will understand that bioreactor is the main part of any biochemical proces for the production of biological products. The important part of the lectures are processess connected with upstream and downstream processing. At the end the lessons will explain the basic knowledge from tissue engineering and nanobiotechnology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, seminars - 1 teaching hour per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

During the semester and at the end of the semester, students take part on one written test focused on the calculations. The condition of the receiving credit (allowing for the exam) is to obtain 50% points. Students who do not meet this requirement may pass the test in two substitute terms in the exam period.

Exam will be in written form (30 questions, 2 hours, 100 points maximum, 55 points minimum. The additional oral exam is possible if it is necessary.
