English for Chemists II

Vocabulary for selected branches of chemistry (synonyms, antonyms) - organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistrsy, sophisticated devices and their operation, biochemistry, mathematical expressions and laboratory equipment. Grammar (e.g. gerund, future, articles, if-clauses, present simple in technical texts etc). Speaking (e.g. hobbies, leisure, future plans, eating habits, food...). Development of language skills: writing (e.g. instructions, notes, schemes, graphs and equations based on a text,...) , reading (individual information and summary - instrument operation etc.), listening (related to a topic discussed, particular information, general understanding, main ideas, summary,.......), speaking (exchanging info on nature of substances, hobbies, plans for future, acquiring information, explanation, interpretation of graphs and tables,....). Language work (cloze tests, matching definitions,.....) with the perspective to future completion of examination corresponding to CEFR B1 level.

2. week: Lesson 1 - listening - food and organic chemistry, expressing future in English, personal plans for future
3. week: Lesson 2 - "Acid, bases and salts" - vocabulary, properties of acid and bases, pH scale
4. week: Lesson 2 - technical texts - use of present simple, writing laboratory instructions; listening
5. week: Lesson 3 - "Laboratory equipment" - vocabulary, gerund, hobbies, interests
6. week: Lesson 3 - listening, "Laboratory safety" and "First Aid" - vocabulary,
7. week: Lesson 4 - "Analytical Laboratory" - vocabulary, listening, articles in chemically oriented texts;
8. week: Lesson 5 - "Biochemistry" - vocabulary
9. week: Lesson 5 - listening, zero conditional sentences in technical texts,
10. week: Lesson 6 - verbalization of mathematical expressions, listening
11. week: Lesson 6 - verbalization and interpretation of graphs, "Statistics" - vocabulary
12. week: Lesson 7 - "Physical chemistry" - vocabulary
13. week: Lesson 7 - Real and unreal conditional sentences, listening
