Original Abstract

Large bone defects pose significant challenges due to their slow healing process, often accompanied by bone inflammation. Utilizing advanced fabrication techniques offers a distinct advantage over conventional methods, primarily because it can precisely define the shape, size, and morphology of the final product. In this project, we adopted a novel approach, employing a resorbable bio-ink formulation comprising calcium phosphate (CaP) ceramic powder modified with a thixotropic biodegradable thermosensitive copolymer (originally synthesized at CEITEC BUT1). The fabricated bone scaffolds were further enhanced with bioactive proteins to expedite the healing process and suppress microbial infection. This study investigated the release kinetics of two key substances: a bioactive protein and an enzyme from the bone cement scaffolds. We focused on discerning how different methods of protein incorporation—affect the release rate of these substances. Our findings revealed distinct variations in release rates depending on the specific method of bioactive substance incorporation. Furthermore, our research extended to evaluating the susceptibility of bacterial strains to the antibacterial enzyme.
