Original Abstract
Polysaccharide gum Karaya is a promising natural material for tissue engineering as it possesses high biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and potential antimicrobial properties. Gum Karaya-based hydrogel films fabricated via freeze-drying form transparent and flexible hydrogel with an excellent mechanical property suitable for direct use in wound healing. Subsequent enrichment with antimicrobial agents increases the multifunctionality of the hydrogel. It makes it possible to battle resistant gram-positive S. aureus using bacteriophages or antiseptic octenidine dihydrochloride, which can suppress gram-negative E. coli.
