Original Abstract
Gas chromatography (GC) is a sensitive instrumental analytical technique designed for the separation, identification, qualitative, and quantitative analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) even at trace concentrations. Part of the CEITEC Nano Research Infrastructure is a two-channel gas chromatograph (GC) PerkinElmer Clarus® 680. The chromatograph is equipped with two types of autosamplers, which enable both the direct injection technique of liquid samples and the headspace (HS) technique in one system. Two types of detector are used for detection. A universal flame ionization detector (FID) that is suitable for the identification and quantitative analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) containing C-H bonds. The second option is detection using mass spectrometry (MS), which is in combination with gas chromatography (i.e. GC/MS) ensures universal, fast, and accurate analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) even in trace concentrations. This universal GC-MS-HS assembly is suitable for the following applications: environmental analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis of hydrocarbons (compounds composed of C-H bonds), kinetics study of different types of polymerization and copolymerization, analysis of the purity of prepared polymer materials, analysis of the purity of volatile and semivolatile organic compounds, analysis of degradation products, determination of residual solvents in synthesized materials, determination of residual solvents, for example, after electrospinning and 3D printing, residual ethylene oxide after sterilization, etc.
