Original Abstract
This proposed project/presentation was presented at Duisburg in Germany within Shimadzu competition lab4you 2022. This project is based on previous research performed at Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry (BUT FCH), where the research group of Dr. Mravcová cooperates with the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture (Brno, Czech Republic), Veterinary research institute (Brno, Czech Republic), Institute for state control of veterinary biologicals and medicines (Brno Czech Republic), Masaryk University, Faculty of Medicine (Brno, Czech Republic), CEITEC BUT (Brno Czech Republic), Mendel University (Brno, Czech Republic) etc. The group’s area of research is the monitoring of pharmaceuticals in the environment to determine pollution in the environment, and develop potential solutions/methods to remove these micropollutants from wastewater by advanced oxidation processes (e.g. O3, UV lamp, H2O2, plasma discharge or their combination) or to lower their bioavailability in agricultural fields by application of biochar and also to help to determine accessible residual limits in the environment and grown crops. This project follow-up recent research on the quantification of PhACs uptake by lettuce (under hydroponic conditions and in the soil environment) and earthworms. Our research groups have successfully finished experiments with Antiinflammatory and antirheumatic products, Beta blocking agents, Macrolides, Quinolone antibacterials, Sulfonamides, Tetracyclines and a mixture of these pharmaceuticals with environmentally relevant concentrations. However, we further aim to fill the knowledge gap, the qualitative determination of yet unknown metabolites of certain pharmaceuticals in lettuce and earthworms by LC-HRMS at SHIMADZU facilities. As these metabolites are unknown, the risk of long-term intake of PhACs in agriculture crops can be highly underestimated, as only parent substances can be monitored.
