Original Abstract
Carotenogenic yeasts are well known for production of carotenoids, sterols, lipids and β-glucans. These metabolites can be further used in pharmaceutical, food and feed industry. They are heterotrophic microorganisms capable of utilizing wide variety of carbon sources including waste substrates of food and feed industry. The research of this work was focused on valorisation of waste spent coffee grounds and several lipid substrates from food industry. In this work several yeast strains of genera Sporidiobolus were tested. Results show, that studied yeast strains were able to grow on SCG hydrolysate and used lipid wastes. Stress induced by these materials led to increased production of lipids, sterols and carotenoids. Furthermore, results show that studied yeast strains are resistant to antimicrobial compounds present in the SCG hydrolysate and oil substrates. Results proved our assumption, that combination of different waste substrates leads to higher stress levels, and thus to higher production of studied metabolites. The best strain in production of valuable metabolites was strain Sporidiobolus pararoseus cultivated on combination of SCG oil and SCG hydrolysate.
