Original Abstract
The decomposition of various organic compounds (VOC) in gliding arc discharge has been intensively studied during last 15 years. Our experimental results pointed on regarding toluene and hexane destruction in gliding arc plasma showed that this technique is very effective. This work was based on improvement of the experimental apparatus - reactor and the other fundamental elements and on study of VOC decomposition. The applied voltage generating the discharge was varied in the range of 2 - 4 kV, the air, nitrogen and its mixtures with argon or oxygen were used as carrying gas with flow rate of at least 1300 ml?min-1. The product analysis proceeded in a gas chromatograph linked to mass spectrometer. The products of decomposition were adsorbed on active coal in the sorption tubes and then extracted to carbon disulphide. This solution was used for analysis in GC-MS. The whole work was focused on removal efficiency of toluene (as an aromatic model of VOC compounds) one stage reactor. The most efficient decomposition was 72 % in one stage reactor.
