Original Abstract
This work is focused on the studies in applicability of Solid Phase Microextraction technique for the gliding arc discharge products sampling with respect to the use of this non-equilibrium plasma source in the decomposition of volatile organic compounds. The simple one-stage gliding arc reactor was used. The applied voltage generating the discharge was varied in the range of 3 - 4 kV, the air, nitrogen and their mixtures were used as the carrying gas with a flow rate of 1000 - 1300 ml?min-1. The discharge exhaust gas was sampled by three different kinds of SPME fibers and the product analysis was done by Gas Chromatography linked to the Mass Spectrometry as the detector. Experimental results obtained by the destruction of cyclohexane and toluene model VOC compounds in the gliding arc plasma showed that this sampling technique is very effective and can be very useful for its simplicity and cheapness. The results showed that the fiber coated by CW/DVB can extract the highest number of destruction products independently of the used VOC representing compound. The CAR/PDMS/DVB fiber is useful for the oxygen containing compounds and its use will be recommended especially when the destruction is done in the air enriched by oxygen. The applicability of PDMS fiber is strongly limited.
