Original Abstract
This work deals with the treatment of archaeological artifacts by the low voltage device multi-electrode system in water solutions at applied power of 5 W. The real archeological samples were beads, waste from blowing glass, pieces from vessels, ingots from glass and ceramics. The treatment was carried out under different experimental conditions, including selected distances from the discharge, and different sodium chloride concentrations in the liquid. The optimal treatment conditions for cleaning of the archaeological artifacts were with 0.9% solution sodium chloride (conductivity about 13 mS/cm) at a distance of about 1 mm from the multi-electrode head. At this distance, the sample was in direct contact with the bubble with plasma and hence plasma reactive species were interacting directly with the surface corrosion layers. This treatment was monitored by optical emission spectroscopy and the changes on the surface were identified by SEM/ EDX analysis.
