Original Abstract
This article describes experimental research on a ring from PZT ceramics used in knock sensors. The main aim of work is to investigate of temperature effects on piezoelectric material parameters and characterize the influence and changes these parameters on the properties of knock sensors. The purpose of the research is to fault diagnosis of active piezoelectric element for self-diagnostics of sensor in normal engine operation, because online health monitoring of knock sensors can prevent engine damage. Temperature changes significantly affect the material properties of the active element from PZT ceramics. Temperature deviations are compared on the impedance and phase characteristics in the working temperature range of engine and also related to different types of sensor damage. Depending on the material defects (cracks, fissures, fractures) and changes in the material coefficients related to the frequency characteristic can assess the degree of damage sensors and the prediction quality piezoelement inside the sensor. The experimental comparison results are conducted and are shown. A series of experiments were conducted on a knock sensor, where was changed piezoelectric elements with different number of cracks. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed experimental methods can be used for mentioned purpose and eliminate damage the engine by vibrations.
