Nick Parak visited our faculty for a three-day research stay as part of the “Aktion” project between the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology and the Technical University of Vienna. In his master’s thesis, Nick is working on the oxidation of organic compounds to formic acid—used as a chemical medium for hydrogen transfer—by means of photoelectrocatalysis. In our laboratory, he investigated the course of this reaction using online monitoring with a new benchtop NMR. His stay continued our previous joint work on electro- and photocatalyzed hydrogen evolution utilizing nature-inspired flavin derivatives. This visit also provided inspiration for submitting joint grant proposals, in which both groups effectively complement and strengthen each other in their research themes.
