Lecture invitation: Solvents: Not only versatile media for chemical reactions, but important co-actors by polarity in various fields in chemistry
You are cordially invited to a lecture by Professor Heinz Langhals (from LMU University of Munich), which will take place on Thursday, 16 November, at 9:00 in room P16 (1.13).
Abstract:In a basic approach to intermolecular interactions, the molar concentration of substances was used for various effects. These effects were proportional to the concentration changes at high dilution and become smaller with increasing density. The integration resulted in a two-parameter equation useful for studying various effects such as the CO2 state, indicating changes in the gaseous and liquid structure. Applying the equation to the concept of solvent polarity led to further insights into solvent effects and more generally into effects in condensed phases. Finally, long-range interactions of electronically excited fluorescent dyes molecules larger than 100 nm were indicated and characterised.
Professor Heinz Langhals is a Professor at the Department Chemie - Organic and macromolecular Chemistry of the FAKULTÄT FÜR CHEMIE UND PHARMAZIE at the LMU University of Munich.
