The position in these rankings is often a primary indicator when establishing strategic partnerships with universities abroad and has significant marketing and reference potential when presenting the university. A few words about the methodology
The Times Higher Education Rankings is a ranking of universities published by the UK's Times Higher Education (THE) magazine and is one of the top three global university rankings. In addition to the World University Rankings, which focuses on the overall ranking of universities, THE has also focused on subject rankings since 2011, comparing the performance of higher education institutions in eleven separate subject groups.
Performance of the universities is tracked across eighteen indicators, which are divided into five categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. The weighting of each category varies from field to field, depending, for example, on the emphasis placed on education or research in the field. In general, however, regardless of the field, the first three categories are the main contributors to the ranking. Each of them accounts for approximately 30% of the weight of the overall assessment. The BUT’s performance in this context is particularly notable for its success in the area of research quality, which includes citation rate or research excellence.
